My Story | Process of Physical Healing
Page: 4 of 14

My grafts healed very quickly. This was good in the sense that it locked in the fact that I would live. It was bad in that it made my physical therapy start quickly and never let up. Kevin, my PT, told me that I needed to use all my energy to exercise or I would lose the ability to use my limbs and would have to return to the operating room for releases. I believed him and went at it with a vengeance. It worked. I asked him to give me a date when I would feel better. He told me that if I did everything he asked, in about three months I would feel much more myself, and I did. I can't tell you how important it is to exercise.

Hope
More importantly, I need to talk about hope. Hope fueled my spirit. I hoped for the very best, and lots of people added to that hope. I gained strength from their strength. I held on to my sense of humor, but I gained strength and hope from other people's humor. A sense of humor can keep you alive, along with all the other factors.
