Attitude/Perspective
Attitude is everything. Persistence is the key. It's completely normal to have huge mood swings, one moment crying and the next laughing. I found it useful to channel as much energy (anger, sadness, frustration, and even joy) into my recovery as possible. I used it to fuel the rehabilitation. Exercise and move all the time. When it feels as if you can't go on, and the pain is too much, keep fighting. You have no idea the level of energy and willpower you are able to produce. Keep fighting!!!

Having Control of Your Emotions and Your Body

The idea of having control of your emotions is ridiculous. You do not get "control." You learn to channel those energies into something positive.

Your emotions are a form of energy that can be used for positive or negative purposes. Everyone has times when they "lose it." Returning to an attitude toward movement and healing is important.

When you fall down, get back up, or find someone to help pull you up. Sometimes it feels as if no progress is being made, it is. Have faith.

A burn injury is an emotional roller coaster. Don't be afraid to ride it fully up and down. If you feeling like crying (and you will) cry. If you feel like telling people you love them, tell them. Sometimes allowing ourselves to feel is a very difficult thing to do. Don't be afraid of your emotions. Also, don't be afraid to ask for help. Talking to a counselor, someone outside your family, can be tremendously healing and insightful. Ask your doctor or hospital social worker for a referral.
